Ruusa - Galgo Espanol Dog Portrait

7/27/2020 12:29:12 PM | By Louise Charles-Saarikoski | Comment on this

Beautiful galgo Espanol Ruusa ♥️
I had several photos of this lovely girl. I always ask, “which is your favorite?” Usually the one I would choose is not the favorite because I am looking for something else in the photograph - eye detail, good light, sharp picture, expression etc etc.  However, this is irrelevant because the client sees something special in another photo that is important for them and that is what matters most.
The ‘favorite’ photo is the main one I work from, and I use the others if I need to.
If you would like me to paint your dog(s) from your photos send them to me [email protected] and tell me your favorite!

You can find commission information here on my website and if you have any specific questions or would like to order a painting  please contact me by email: [email protected]!

You want a portrait of more than one dog?

7/20/2020 10:09:38 AM | By Louise Charles-Saarikoski | Comment on this

If you have many dogs you have a choice with a portrait painting. They can be painted separately on individual canvases or painted together on one canvas. It is up to you. You are welcome to send me your photographs without obligation, and we can decide what will work best.

If a dog or dogs have already passed away, lets look at the photographs you have of them and discuss what can be done.

Whatever the situation if you have multiple dogs you would like painted, please get in touch by using the contact tab in the menu.

In this example the choice was to paint dachshund half brother and sister Tarek and Iida  on separate canvases or paint them together as a double dog portrait. Painting them together like this made the portrait even more special for the recipient who received it as a birthday gift, and is a great focal point in any room.

Nyrkkeilevät Rusakot - Boxing Hares

7/13/2020 6:39:48 AM | By Louise Charles-Saarikoski | Comment on this

It was great fun to paint these two hares!

These lovely animals are normally solitary, so it is quite something when they show this crazy behaviour!  I experienced just this craziness this spring while walking my ex-hunting dog, a galgo Espanol (Spanish greyhound) adopted from Spain. The hares where oblivious to us as we stood quite close to watch. My hound could not believe her eyes with this behaviour at such close quarters and this was all so amusing to observe. This is what has inspired me to paint my Hare and Hound series of paintings to be released August 2020. If you are interested to be among the first to have access to the paintings add your email details to the box below and I will keep you informed.

An original 80 x 60 cm (31"x 23") acrylic painting of two boxing hares.

This painting is sold, however if you would like to commission a similar piece, please contact me: [email protected]

Galgo Espanol Dog Portrait - Otso

7/9/2020 2:39:56 AM | By Louise Charles-Saarikoski | Comment on this

A commissioned oil painting of a Galgo Espanol named Otso a rescue dog from Spain now living his best life in Finland!

I loved the way he is looking up catching so much light in his eyes and very pleased my client  chose this pose for the portrait.

Otso is the first Galgo I met and the reason I adopted my own. If you want the perfect loyal companion, choose a Galgo Espanol. They spend most of their day sleeping, but will entertain you with their 'zoomies' around the house and their speed and agility in the dog park.

I work from photographs and most of the subjects in my painting I do not have the opportunity to meet, so distance is not object. If you would like me to paint a dog portrait for you click the 'contact' tab in the menu and we can discuss what you would like.

Birdwatcher - Red Fox

7/7/2020 8:44:19 AM | By Louise Charles-Saarikoski | Comment on this

This fox painting recently found its new home in the same street as my studio!

The studio has a large window to quite a busy street. It faces almost due north, so perfect for painting as the light hardly changes throughout the the day. The other advantage of this window is that it is great for displaying my paintings. My neighbours often comment how they like to see what I am painting. This has encouraged me to always turn my easel to face the window when I am not there so they can see the work in progress. I also display other works on the wide windowsill which I rotate on a regular basis, and the fox has had his turn. This is how he found his new home!

Back to the painting! For those that live in Helsinki you are probably familiar with Lehtisaari an island on the west of the city. This is the location where I often saw the subject of this painting. I used to see it regularly, a lovely healthy looking fox with beautiful thick fur.  I have several photographs of him - not terribly good, but good enough to paint from.

The moment captured in the painting was when the fox saw me, turned away to go the opposite direction and was then distracted by some birds flying overhead. This is why I called the painting birdwatcher.
