The way a greyhound moves is something quite amazing - to see them run full pelt is something else! For a painting to capture this I just needed to keep it simple.

I applied the pink oil colour thickly to to the canvas leaving lovely  texture made by my coarse brush. The only other colour in this painting is black. I used it quite dilute and it ran into and along some of the lines left by the bristles of my paint brush in the pink paint. This gives the idea of speed around the galgo's legs. I used a rag to remove some black paint to expose the pink beneath e.g. over her ribs.

The painting is inspired by my galgo Espanol (Spanish greyhound rescued from Spain 3 years ago). Photographing her when she runs is difficult. I am unable to freeze the action! So I use video in slow motion mode to capture the order of her legs as she thunders passed me and the way her flexible body bends and flexes as she increases her speed.

This painting is sold, however it is available as a fine art print >>>
