I painted this during the winter. There always comes a point during this seemingly very long season when I cannot wait for spring to come and a yearning to see some colour in the nature. So I decided to mix some spring colours and add them to a canvas. I was very random in my application, and had the idea I would paint out the background around my subject.
As I applied the paint and built up more and more colour the orange brown towards the top of the canvas with some dark markings through it, reminded me of brindle. I decided to draw the image of a brindle galgo Espanol over the top of the colour I had already laid down. I painted out the background in a very light almost white colour with a block of pink thin fluid paint in the top left corner to accentuate the head and face. I kept all further markings on the subject as abstract and loose as possible, but in a way to show the form and especially the typical white face of a older brindle galgo.
