Sometimes things work out just as they should! I painted this from a photo taken by Atalja Bar from  Refugio Esperanza - hope for galgos a small galgo or Spanish greyhound (Galgo Español) refuge located in COÍN, SPAIN. These are three of their rescue galgos.

I had wanted to paint some greyhounds running but had not really found a good reference to use until I saw this one. There is such fun and energy, and the galgos are certainly enjoying their freedom, racing around together. The three of them were such a good composition with the one at the back leaping higher than the others. I had asked for help on Facebook and Instagram to find a title for the painting. These are rescue hounds and now they are 'Running Free' - a very fitting title.

The painting had a lot of interest on social media, and soon after I had finished the painting I had an inquiry - but it was just an inquiry!

The long Finnish summer holiday season came and went, and now was the time to start promoting it to sell it. Then I realised the person who had earlier inquired had adopted one of the galgos in the painting! So, I thought I should go back to her to see if she would like the painting. And now this painting has a new home with Refugio Esperanza - Xanthos! This is perfect because now I make a donation from the sale to Refugio Esperanza to help them carry on their good work.

I am very pleased to have co-operation with this small Finnish run rescue shelter who rescue these hunting dogs many of which are discarded at the end of the hunting season. As a small charity they select and rescue those most suitable to be re-homed as pets, usually to Finland.  You will find more information about them on their Facebook page>>>
