World Galgo Day

#freethegalgo
Today is World Galgo Day, and Feb 1st also marks the end of the hunting season in Spain.
Every year in Spain tens of thousands of 'Galgos', also known as the 'Spanish Greyhounds' are bred for the sole purpose of hunting, often living a short life of fear and cruelty. At the end of the season, no longer of any use, the Galgos are killed or abandoned.
I adopted a galgo Espanol, she was a hunting dog in Spain had had litters of puppies and at the age of seven found herself in the municipal dog pound in Cordoba. She was rescued from the dog pound by Galgos del Sur and brought to Finland via Galgos del Fenix.
She is a bold and loyal Galgo with a strong character, but has been scarred by the abandonment and is anxious if away from me. So we are hardly ever apart, and that would be the same even if she did not suffer the anxiety. She is great company, a good apartment dog, comes with me to the studio spending the working day on her bed. She has become an inspiration for many of my paintings and given me direction in my work. You could ask who rescued who? But you already know the answer to that.
